Town Commissioners — 2024-09-11

The Queenstown Commissioners met Sept. 11, 2024 at 4:00 PM with President Al Hardee, Commissioner Tom Willis, Town Manager Amy Moore, Town Clerk Aaron Horney and town attorneys present. Guests from Floriat, LLC (Gary Nusinov, Judith Davis, Thomas Klassin) requested a fast zoning decision to allow indoor greenhouse and future outdoor cannabis growing on the Dudley property; Commissioners said they will gather more information (including a visit to the Centreville facility to review odor controls) and noted rezoning takes time. Public Works reported membrane cleaning at the plant scheduled for 9/16–9/17, handled a resident complaint about two oak trees in the Olde Point Lane right-of-way (owner may remove at their expense; town will not fund removal now), and deferred decisions on Maryland Avenue ditch and Old Wharf Lane cleaning until another commissioner returns. The Planning Commission recommended introducing a cannabis ordinance to allow indoor/outdoor growing and hold a public hearing. Other updates: tree lighting set for December 6; bank/fund balances reported (General Fund $23,623.72; WS Fund $574,219.70; ARPA Fund $611,550.71); August 28 minutes were tabled; town will repair Peregoy fence damage, pursue cybersecurity grant options with IT vendor, and accept a resident-donated bat box to place near the wastewater treatment property.
