Town Commissioners — 2024-06-12

The June 12, 2024 Queenstown Commissioners meeting covered infrastructure, marine, planning and finance items. Sunrise Solar reported the town would need a roughly 571 kW system (about 2.5 acres) to meet current electric use and suggested pursuing Maryland Clean Energy grants, roof/land lease partnerships, or separating WWTP electric costs. Sewer contractor Steve Roberson reported a grease-caused stoppage at Steamboat/Second Ave (property owner to be notified and could be liable), identified infiltration and a large crack near MD 456/656 (commissioners agreed to repair known issues now), and completed two WWTP sewer valve replacements; smoke testing/TV inspection and dye tests on Melvin Ave were scheduled to find further leaks. Other actions: Del Rhodes pump station gate and fencing were replaced, a proposed speed bump on Comegys Lane was declined pending sheriff contact with the offender, the Planning Commission annual report was submitted to the state, the Finance Committee reappointed Pat Bowill (3-0) and will advertise two vacancies, treasurer balances were reported (General $71,992.52; W/S $8,255.48; ARPA $642,543.30), and courthouse repair work will be put out to bid after a denied grant; the FY25 budget ordinance (No. 24-04) with stated tax rates and an 8% water/sewer consumption increase was on the 6:00 PM public hearing and vote agenda.
