Town Commissioners — 2020-09-23

The Queenstown Commissioners met remotely on September 23, 2020. A public hearing at 6:53 PM covered two proposed ordinances—Ord. 20-04 to amend Section 3.7 to prohibit parking of vehicles and trailers on posted public property, and Ord. 20-05 to authorize purchase of 0.67 acres of the Dudley property for a water tower—both received no public comment and the hearing was adjourned at 6:55 PM (vote 2-0). At the 7:00 PM regular meeting Bryon Callahan was sworn in as commissioner (term through Nov 2022) and Krista Pettit of New Haven Ministries described the ministry’s appointment-based bill-pay and food pantry services. Public Works reported multiple plant issues and repairs: burned outlet well wiring and chlorine pump (repaired and replaced), a water-hammer–related pipe break with three bids for soft-start devices (RAO Electric $17,000; Steve Roberson $10,000; Lywood Electric $11,832), and a 3-0 vote to use Lywood Electric if they provide a warranty. The commissioners also approved purchasing Trojan UV bulb/sleeve replacement kits ($14,016 for 48 combos) unless a cost-effective equipment changeover is found, and discussed enclosing electrical panels (estimated $5,400 for materials, electrical work excluded) with bidding and specs to follow. Planning reported a letter on the Draft Master Trails Plan sent to Queen Anne’s County requesting review and comments before bringing a revised plan to the commissioners.
