Town Commissioners — 2020-09-16

The Queenstown Commissioners held a virtual special meeting on September 16, 2020 (called to order at 3:30 p.m.) to interview candidates to fill the commissioner vacancy created by Commissioner Hogie Schuster’s resignation. Commissioners Thomas B. Willis, Jr. and Alton Hardee, Jr. agreed on six standard questions for all applicants and interviewed seven candidates (Frank Philip; Mike Bowell; Lonnie Anthony; Joe Cvach; Paul Cain; Bryon Callahan; and Chris Drummond), each giving brief backgrounds, primary concerns for the town, and availability. Candidate issues raised included enhancement of the colonial courthouse and historic resources, communication/transparency, water and sewer improvements, the condition of the Queenstown Outlets, controlled growth, transient renters and property maintenance, speeding, boat slips/boat ramp and waterfront park improvements, and grant familiarity. The Commissioners scheduled a follow-up meeting for September 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the candidates and make an appointment decision.
