The Planning Commission met on February 7, 2024. The commission unanimously voted to recommend that the Commissioners allow shelter facilities operated with religious organizations as a special exception in the zoning ordinance, following a presentation by Peter Grimm of Haven Ministries and a suggestion by Town Planner Peter Johnston to require a public hearing. Kevin Shearon of DMS & Associates reviewed Wheatlands (Waterman Family) plan revisions requested by Peter Johnston and reported no issues with the listed sidewalk, gutter pan, intersection radii, horizontal curve, and vertical curve changes. In public comment Jim Knight supported the zoning recommendation and asked about funds to the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department (to be specified in the DRRA); Commissioners agreed to amend the DRRA as written. Town Manager updates noted MDE issued a permit for a small pier at the boat ramp with a contractor lined up for spring work, and that a proposal for golf-course charters from the Lady Helen dock would need a zoning amendment; commissioners also asked the Planning Commission to reassess permitted locations for recreational cannabis and requested business plans and impact research. The January 10, 2024 minutes were approved and the meeting adjourned at 8:06 pm.
