On August 11, 2021 the Queenstown Commissioners (Tom Willis, Al Hardee, Bryon Callahan) met with Planning Commission members to review the Trails Master Plan (approved by the Planning Commission June 2, 2021). Planning Vice-Chair Matt Reno summarized the Plan’s goals — promote trails, pursue grant funding, and reflect strong resident support from a town survey — and Commissioners said the Plan was well written but asked for wording changes to avoid implying the town must set aside annual funds or be required to build trails; agreeable edits were made. Planner Peter Johnston said those edits do not change the Plan’s purpose; the revised edition will be sent to Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan for legal review and then introduced for adoption at the next Commissioners meeting and for submission to the County Comprehensive Plan.

Planning members Matt Reno, Geneva Rieu, Paul Cain and Mike Bowell. Town Planner Peter Johnston and Town Manager Amy Moore also present. Meeting called to order at 6:01 p.m.by President Willis. Purpose of the meeting was to provide comments and concerns to the Planning Commission members regarding the proposed Trails Master Plan, approved by the Planning Commission on June2,202l. The Plan was forwarded to the Commissioners for review and adoption. Planning Commission Vice-Chair Matt Reno gave an overview as to why the Plan was drafted and what purpose it would serve Queenstown. He advised that communities with trails are more sought after than those without. Grant funding would be applied for to help maintain trails in town, in addition to the annual maintenance currently required of the town to maintain and upgrade certain sidewalks and streets. Before drafting the Plan, the Planning Commission conducted a survey of town residents to see if they would want to see designated trails and the response was tremendous in favor of trails. All Commissioners stated and agreed that the Plan was very well written and acknowledged the time and effort put into drafting it. They think over all it is a great Plan, but had some concerns with some of the wording. Commissioner Hardee stated the Commissioners main concern was being locked in to spending money on trails in the future. Some of the wording in the Plan led them to believe that money would need to be set aside annually for trails, and that some time down the road the Town may be required to build some trails. Commissioner Hardee noted the wording on several of the pages, and changes were made that were agreeable to all. Planner Peter Johnston stated that the changes made don't change the purpose of the Plan. The Planning Commission would like to see the Plan adopted by the Commissioners so that they can then introduce it to the County and request inclusion in the County Comprehensive Plan. President Willis noted that the revised edition will be sent to the Town Attorney, Lyndsey Ryan for legal review. The Commissioners acknowledged that once reviewed, they would introduce for adoption at their next meeting.
